WILMINGTON, North Carolina (WWAY) – Hundreds of people gathered on Saturday to take part in the neighborhood’s third annual art exploration along Wrightsville Avenue and Pender Avenue in Wilmington.

‘Art-oberfest 2021’ showcased the works of nearly 40 local artists, many of whom live in the house that lines the streets of the event.

This year’s showcase was very special, honoring portrait painter Sandy Lee, who died in January.

Lee’s partner says it means a lot to see his artwork inspire so many people.

“To make sure art gets into people’s homes,” Lee’s partner Ken Cox said. “When people see his art, because it’s so detailed in everything he’s done, such a great artist, people say it’s Sandy Lee’s art right there. Keep it in people’s minds. His memory is alive.

In addition to the impressive artwork, there was also a bluegrass group and several craft shows.
