Orthodox LA Gallery and The Phoenix Salon will celebrate African American History Month with two educational and enlightening exhibitions of contemporary art.

Sponsored by What’s Ya Vibe Creative Agency, the interactive pop-up presentations will run from February through March 6 and feature works by more than 20 multicultural and multimedia artists.

According to curator Shay Renee, Orthodox LA will host “The Tower of Light – Where You Learn About the Harlem Renaissance Today” at her studio at 2712 W. 54and St. in Los Angeles.

The exhibition will showcase the works of iconic figures such as performer Josephine Baker and painter Aaron Douglas through photography, NFTs and other forms of visuals. Ten percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Amazing Grace Conservatory.

“This show is a step back in time to encourage our society to continue moving forward in a time of uncertainty. World-renowned and emerging artists have collaborated to show pieces that show black in all its beauty. “, explained Shay Renee.

“This immersive set features works presented through retro view masters, telescope, kaleidoscope, film and more. Additionally, attendees have the opportunity to listen to playlists and original works by artists via cassette and CD players as well as vinyl while viewing the exhibit,” she added.

The exhibition, dedicated to the popular Sisters N Hair beauty salon of the 1990s and early 2000s, will focus on the creativity associated with hairstyles, art and black history.

“Through denim wigs, custom hair clippers, and chandeliers made of combs, this hair experience merges hair and inner expression, not only through the performer’s physical body, but also through media. “said Shay Renee.
